Richland One – October Sessions

Optional Structures for October 2016 Session

Option #1: Works in you have sufficient substitutes. Allows time for planning or building teacher content knowledge. Will model two structures.

  • Brief meeting with all the teachers participating (15 min.)
  • Demo lesson in classroom #1 followed by Quick Debrief (45 min.) – Find the Fiction, Pairs Compare
  • Demo lesson in classroom #2 (30 min.) – Silent Collaboration (adaptation of Rally Table), Which Does Not Belong?
  • Planning session with all the teachers (1.5 hours)

Option #2: Works if you have some substitutes. Does not allow time for planning or building teacher content knowledge deeply. Only a few teachers will see a demo, opposed to seeing all of the demo lessons. Order of grade levels unimportant. Will model two structures per grade level (Pairs Compare, Which Does Not Belong?, Silent Collaboration, Fan-N-Pick, Find the Fiction).

  • Demo lesson in classroom Grade 3 followed by Quick Debrief (60 min.). Focus is division.
  • Demo lesson in classroom Grade 4 followed by Quick Debrief (60 min.). Focus is multiplication or division. The default is multiplication, unless you let me know to focus on division in advance.
  • Demo lesson in classroom Grade 5 followed by Quick Debrief (60 min.). Focus is decimals.

Option #3: Works if you have some substitutes. Allows time for planning or building teacher content knowledge. Order of grade levels unimportant. Focus will be either on current units of study or upcoming units of study. The teachers will select.

  • Planning with Grade 3 (60 min.)
  • Planning with Grade 4 (60 min.)
  • Planning with Grade 5 (60 min.)

Option #4: Works if you have no substitutes. Does not allow time for a debrief. The expectation is that teachers turn-key the information to fellow peers. I will be traveling light and the demo lessons not leave much wiggle room for adjustments. If you have not responded and told me what topic to focus on, I would not choose this option. Both classes at each grade level get the same demo lesson.

  • Demo lesson in classroom #1 – Grade 3 (30 min.) – Gr. 3: Multiplication, Which Does Not Belong? I will need to project on a screen using an LCD…I have a computer.
  • Demo lesson in classroom #1 – Grade 3 (30 min.)
  • Demo lesson in classroom #1 – Grade 4 (30 min.) – Gr. 4: Multiplication, Silent Collaboration (adaptation of Rally Table) I will need to project on a screen using an LCD…I have a computer.
  • Demo lesson in classroom #1 – Grade 4 (30 min.)
  • Demo lesson in classroom #1 – Grade 5 (30 min.) – Gr. 4: Fluency Carousel (Decimals), I will need a class set of sharpened colored pencils
