Fermi Meets 3-Acts Task #4

Grade 4 Session:

How many bags of beads do we need to order for all 4th grade students to be able to make a number bead string?

  1. Watch the video. Tell (and record) what you notice. Ask (and write) questions that could help you figure out the answer to the above question.
  2. Develop a plan for answering the question. Think about how you will record and organized your information.
  3. Present a solution and justify your thinking.

Standard: Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
